Local Facilities

The Development at El Raso has its own shops, bars and restaurants. The facilities are set out around a small piazza. There is a small supermarket, and several bars and restaurants serving both traditional Spanish food and international cuisine. There are several hypermarkets in the area all within a 10-minute car ride. Here it is possible to buy fresh fish and meats, although the local markets may provide a more exciting shopping experience Agriculture is still the main stay of the local economy and it is possible to purchase fresh, locally grown fruit and vegetables at the wholesalers which is across the road from El Raso.

There is a wide variety of cuisine to suit all tastes in this part of Spain. Chinese restaurants provide one of the best value menus, they are reasonably priced and the portion sizes are large. Watch out for the free melon or apricot schnapps at the end of the meal! Children are often given a small toy. There are plenty of Indian restaurants in the area and these are very popular, it is advisable to book especially at weekends. Traditional Spanish bars serving Tapas can be found in the surrounding area. “Manolo’s Restaurant” which is within walking distance of the complex is the nearest and serves a selection of Spanish and international cuisine.
Quesada is lively international town a short car ride away. Its bustling high street has many restaurants that serve a variety of foods including Spanish, English and Australian barbeque dishes! Quesada has a Crazy Golf Course and a small Water Park. There is nothing that the Spanish enjoy more than a fiesta. Throughout the year, and especially In July and August, the streets are filled at night with typical Spanish entertainments and activities, with something for all ages from simple stalls, live music and dancing.
Firework displays are a typical way to end the evenings and many a quiet night on the terrace is lit up by nearby fiesta! Nearly every village and town holds two or three fiestas throughout the year and it pays to keep a look out for forthcoming events, as they are a sight not to be missed.

Torrevieja is a busy seaside town that has lots going on during the year, but really comes alive in the summer months. At night the beach road is jammed with plenty of small market stalls for browsing and buying at. Both children and adults can enjoy the small fun fair rides that line the streets. Along the sea front there is a wide and varied choice of bars and restaurants in which you can sit and watch the world go by or simply watch the sun go down while you relax and enjoy your favourite tipple. Even in the winter months there’s plenty to see and do in Torrevieja, with the pace of life still relaxed the sea front is a wonderful place to soak up the reliable winter sunshine.

Sunday market. The local Sunday market is within walking distance and is one of the biggest in the area. It attracts people from far and wide it is well worth a visit if only for a "Traditional English Breakfast" with all the trimmings. I particularly like to buy a Sunday paper and read this while enjoying a “fry up” before embarking on a morning of bargain hunting. The market starts early and goes on until late afternoon providing you with plenty of opportunities to browse among the many and varied stalls. This is a great place to buy fresh and ready cooked chicken, beef and pork for a hassle-free Sunday dinner back at the villa. Fresh breads, fruit and vegetables, cheeses and olives are among the many local products available to buy and sample the tastes of Spain. In addition to this for many people the stalls selling shoes and leather goods are hard to resist.

Each local town and village holds it’s own market and it is possible to visit a different one every day of the week! The nearby town of San Miguel has a traditional Bull Ring which hosts a variety of events from bull fighting (not for the squeamish!) to evenings of horsemanship displays that are quintessentially Spanish. Look out for posters advertising these events if you fancy indulging yourselves in the culture and costumes of this proud nation
